IT Systems Analyst

Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking an individual for the position of IT Systems Analyst with advanced SQL DBA experience and strong integration skills.  Reporting to the IT Manager, this role involves supporting various IT systems critical to our 24/7 manufacturing environment, ensuring operational continuity.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, along with proven experience as a Systems Analyst.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining database security, backup and recovery procedures.
  • Develop and execute SQL scripts for data extraction, transformation, and reporting.
  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues, ensuring minimal downtime in a 24/7 environment.
  • Develop and manage Microsoft PowerBI dashboards and PowerApps applications for data visualization and workflow automation.
  • Integrate IT Systems using Microsoft Integration Services, providing seamless data flow and reporting.
  • Collaborate with departments to assess and deploy systems that streamline processes.
  • Provide front-line support for employees and escalate complex issues when necessary.
  • Actively participate in cybersecurity initiatives to protect our systems and users from threats.
  • Provide basic desktop/laptop technical support as needed, assisting with software installations, troubleshooting hardware, and other support tasks.
  • Respond to critical incidents to ensure continuous production and minimize downtime.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule every 4 weeks to provide basic troubleshooting for various IT systems, including server, network, and application-level issues.

Skill/Competency Requirements: 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerBI, PowerApps, and integration tools like Microsoft Integration Services.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills across IT systems (servers, networks, applications).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and a strong commitment to enforcing them in a 24/7 operation.
  • Technical support experience in a desktop/laptop environment is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and be part of plant systems improvements.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Maintenance team. This full-time position is responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of our vast array of mobile equipment. 

Skills/Competency Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely as part of a team
  • Proficient in problem-solving and troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic issues on a variety of machines
  • Welding, Hydraulics and Machining
  • Comfortable working alone in diagnosing emergency breakdowns
  • Self-motivated with strong prioritization skills

  • Willing to work overtime, after-hours call-ins as needed and occasional shift work

Project Manager

Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team. As a Project Manager at PHP, you will report to the Engineering and Asset Manager and be responsible to support or lead the development of new project/work scopes, maintain project control through budget/schedule tracking, analysis, forecasting and reporting.  The Project Manager will have ownership of projects from initiation to close-out, including coordination of project implementation with all stakeholders, effective management of engineering consultants, third-party contractors, and fabricators, and reporting project outcomes.

Requirements:

Candidates must be capable of performing safely in a highly technical and flexible work environment. The ideal candidate for this position is a team player who is proficient with estimating, scheduling and project controls.

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or significant experience in project/construction management on industrial sites.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of contract law as it pertains to executing projects on an industrial site.
  • Experienced in interfacing with contractors – tracking site safety and productivity
  • Proficient in project budget development and tracking.

Shift Manager

Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking an individual for the position of Shift Manager.  Reporting to the Paper Machine Manager, this position is responsible for the efficient management of Mill Operations (Paper Machine 2, Thermal Mechanical Pulp, Woodroom, Woodyard, Effluent, Clay and Warehouse) on a 12-hour shift schedule. The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education and progressive experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or related industrial unionized environment, with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in a supervisory role.  Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience in the paper industry. 

Responsibilities:

  • Monday to Friday day shifts, majority of time spent in the Paper Machine Department
  • Night shifts and weekends, responsible for the entire mill and assist with the management of power dispatching communications with NSPI
  • Interact with the Maintenance, Shipping, Scheduling, and other departments, as well as suppliers and consultants as required
  • Ensure activities are optimized for safety and environmental compliance, quality, efficiency, and cost control
  • Support all safety and training programs
  • Lead the Mill Emergency Response Team.

Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)

Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking a Millwright or Millwright Apprentice to join our Maintenance team.  This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of production equipment and plant systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Equipment installation (pumps, motors, gearboxes, paper machine rolls etc.)
  • Changing hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, hoses, pumps etc.
  • Replacing and tracking conveyor belts
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems
  • Using CMMS to find/order parts, provide detailed feedback on work orders
  • Willing to work overtime, after-hours call-ins and shift work as needed

Skills/Competency Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work setting
  • Attention to detail and takes pride in quality workmanship
  • Knowledge of alignment of machinery and the use of laser alignment equipment

  • Electrical Red Seal or Apprentice (Industrial preferred)
  • Recent electrical experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Experience with troubleshooting and maintenance in an industrial setting

  • Ability to read and understand P&ID’s, pneumatics, hydraulics and electrical schematics

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting & making changes in DCS & PLC systems
  • Changing out & overhauling control valves
  • Installation/change-out of positioners and actuators on valves
  • Changing & calibrating transmitters, hydraulic valves and setting up hydraulic pumps
  • Willing to work shiftwork, overtime and after-hours call-ins as needed

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Electrical Engineering Technology (Instrumentation and Controls) background and/or Red Seal Instrumentation
  • Strong skills in Hydraulics
  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is recommended
  • Experience with troubleshooting and maintenance in an industrial setting
