Industrial Machinist
Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking a Machinist or Machinist Apprentice to join our Maintenance team. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of production equipment and plant systems.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate conventional lathes and milling machines
- Train to set up and operate roll grinder to prepare paper machine and super calendar rolls for service
- Train to set up and operate roll balancer
- Sharpen slitter blades for Calendars and Winders
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems
- Using CMMS to find/order parts, provide detailed feedback on work orders
- Willing to work overtime, after-hours call-ins and shift work as needed
Skills/Competency Requirements:
- Ability to work safely as part of a team
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work setting
- Attention to detail and takes pride in quality workmanship
- Strong problem-solving and communication abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficient computer skills. Experience using a CMMS is considered an asset
Experience/Education Requirements:
- Machinist Certificate of Trade – Red Seal (preferred) or Apprenticeship
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in milling and turning operations on conventional machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinder, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with grinding wheels and grinding operations
- Additional skills/certification in other trades such as millwrights, welding, pipefitting, are considered an asset.
- Roll grinding experience is considered an asset
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

TMP Manager
Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as TMP (Thermo Mechanical Pulp) Manager. Reporting to the Mill Co-Manager and with safety as our highest priority, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating all TMP production operations. Your goal will be to ensure the efficient and economical production of high-quality pulp.
The TMP operations at PHP include three refiner lines, bleaching, heat recovery, and clay furnish supply. As a key member of the PHP Senior Leadership Team, you will lead your team in driving operational excellence and continuous improvement. You will also play a strategic role in advancing fibre production, enhancing efficiency, and maintaining quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Engineering or Paper Science, with at least ten years pulp and/or paper production experience coupled with five years in a supervision role. Leading and performing in a highly technical, fast-paced manufacturing or related industrial environment.

Woodlands Operations Planner/Supervisor
Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking an individual for the position of Woodlands Operations Planner/Supervisor. Living and working in our Western Cape Breton Island district, you would report to the Woodlands Superintendent of the district and be responsible for the oversight of harvesting, road construction and silviculture performed by our Woodlands contractors - helping to meet the district’s supply chain goals.
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in Forestry and three or more years of experience working in a team environment while having autonomy to make their own decisions.
Responsibilities:
While working within the Provincial Regulations, you would be practicing your skills in:
- Development of a sustainable 5-year operating plan.
- Work closely with the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables
- Timber cruising and GPS work
- Scheduling of forest activities (harvesting, roads, and silviculture) within the team

- Troubleshooting & making changes in DCS & PLC systems
- Changing out & overhauling control valves
- Installation/change-out of positioners and actuators on valves
- Changing & calibrating transmitters, hydraulic valves and setting up hydraulic pumps
- Willing to work shiftwork, overtime and after-hours call-ins as needed
Experience/Education Requirements:
- Electrical Engineering Technology (Instrumentation and Controls) background and/or Red Seal Instrumentation
- Strong skills in Hydraulics
- A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is recommended
- Experience with troubleshooting and maintenance in an industrial setting
- Ability to read and understand P&IDs, pneumatics, hydraulics and electrical schematics

- Troubleshooting & replacing electrical equipment such as motors, transformers and VFDs
- Troubleshooting & replacing components in PLC & DCS systems
- Troubleshooting & installing field devices such as limit switches, transmitters
- Repairing & replacing lighting throughout the plant
- Testing for electrical isolation for operations and maintenance lockouts
- Prioritizing and responding to calls from different operating departments
- Willing to work shiftwork, overtime and after-hours call-ins as needed
Experience/Education Requirements:
- Electrical Engineering Technology (Instrumentation and Controls) background
- Red Seal Electrical is considered an asset
- A minimum of 8 years of recent experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is recommended

- Experience with understanding existing programs and making changes in DCS & PLC
