Carpenter

Port Hawkesbury Paper has a job opportunity for a motivated and skilled individual to join our Maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position will be responsible for all aspects of carpentry work in an industrial environment.

Skills/Competency Requirements:

Candidates must be capable of performing in a highly technical and flexible work environment. The ideal candidate for this position is a team player who possesses outstanding organizational and communication skills and has strong problem-solving abilities. 

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Grade XII and completion of Carpentry Certificate of Trade (Red Seal) or 4th-year apprenticeship
  • Minimum 5 years’ recent carpentry trade experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
  • A second Certificate of Trade will be considered an asset
  • Scaffold Certification
  • Solid computer skills
  • Ability to estimate supplies, materials, and labour
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining a focus on safety

Payroll Clerk

Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Administrator, the Payroll Clerk must be a team player who can work independently and safely in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Entry and verification of payroll data for over 220 employees
  • Payroll reconciliations and reporting
  • Vacation and holiday entitlement calculations
  • Maintaining payroll files and confidential employee information
  • Answering employees’ payroll inquiries
  • Assisting with income tax report preparations
  • Preparing ROE’s as required
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline
  • Prior experience in payroll administration for a unionized workforce
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Word)
  • Familiarity with payroll software programs
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and multi-tasking abilities
  • Solid time management skills and ability to work under pressure and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis and ability to work on statutory holidays
  • In-depth understanding of payroll functions as they relate to collective agreement administration
  • Payroll Certification or interest in completing the program

Compensation:

Steam Plant & Utilities Superintendent

Responsibilities:

The Steam Plant & Utilities Superintendent, working closely with mill wide operations and maintenance, coordinates the efficient operation and continuous improvement of PHP’s Utility Plant systems including all associated steam and water systems. Maintains operations and maintenance procedures, documentation on equipment, and reference manuals. Regularly liaises with contracted boiler operations company. Advises and communicates with all mill areas regarding scheduled and unscheduled utility outages and actively troubleshoots utility problems. Coordinates or assists in the coordination of utilities related maintenance shutdowns, project planning, designing, and procurement processes.

Requirements:

1st or 2nd Class Power Engineering certification coupled with more than 10 years of operations experience working in a utility environment. Candidate should have a strong aptitude for mechanical and process control along with relevant experience leading and working on interdisciplinary teams.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for/to:

  • Providing technical support to the maintenance department
  • Recognize and implement improvements to equipment that will improve efficiency, reliability, and maintainability
  • Identify the root cause of problems and develop and implement solutions
  • Mechanical engineering support on major maintenance and capital projects
  • Long-range mechanical maintenance planning and management
  • Interface with consulting engineers, vendors and contractors

Experience/Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible to be licensed by Engineers Nova Scotia
  • 3 to 5 Years of Mechanical Engineering Experience
  • Previous maintenance experience considered an asset
