Port Hawkesbury Paper LP is currently seeking an individual for the position of:

Buyer

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will be responsible for supporting initiatives to lower costs for materials and services, developing and improving supplier relationships, and driving work process improvements to increase productivity throughout the supply chain. The position requires extensive communication via phone and email in a fast-paced environment. Must have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and quickly learn products and industry-specific terms, order entry, inventory management and transportation systems. Must be able to work independently, patiently and proactively with a wide variety of customers to find creative solutions in a very time-sensitive manner and must be effective working in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.


Essential Position Requirements:

• Research cost savings opportunities and productivity improvements through supplier cost reduction and improved efficiency
• Resolve quantity/pricing issues with vendors
• Manage raw material inventory and purchases. Assist production teams in setting inventory goals. Negotiate and maintain strong relationships with material suppliers. Work to find new sources of supply for raw materials and/or alternate raw materials to meet production needs
• Assume a leadership role in managing key relationships with production and maintenance departments to ensure added value in the procurement process, along with compliance to purchasing policies and procedures
• Provide support for planned maintenance shutdowns
• Support the Purchasing Manager with reduction of Stores inventory through supplier and procurement initiatives
• Act as a lead negotiator for supply agreements involving materials and services.

Experience/Education Requirements: 

• Post-secondary education in a Business or related field
• Experience in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management
• SCMP designation or current enrollment

Skills/Competencies Required: 

• Strong computer skills and advanced experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
• Proficient with the RFP process for contract jobs
• Previous ERP experience
• Capable of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work with all levels of the organization
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Forward-thinking along with strong interpersonal skills
• Exceptional planning and organizational skills with great attention to detail

Welder

Responsibilities:
Port Hawkesbury Paper has a job opportunity for a motivated and skilled individual to join our Maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of production equipment and plant systems.
Skills/Competency Requirements:
Candidates must be capable of performing in a highly technical and flexible work environment. The ideal candidate for this position is a team player who possesses outstanding organizational and communication skills and has strong problem-solving capabilities. Proven ability to accurately measure, cut, grind, fit, align, tack weld and weld. In addition to holding a Certificate of Trade in Welding, experience pipefitting, millwrighting and metal fabrication would be considered an asset.

Experience/Education Requirements: 

• Grade 12 and a Welding Certificate of Trade from a recognized post-secondary institution
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment (maintenance and/or new fabrication)
• A second Certificate of Trade or equivalent knowledge and experience in Millwright or Pipefitting
• Must possess (or have held in the past) pressure welding licenses – F3/F4 and/or F5/F6
• Skilled in performing aluminum, pipe and stainless steel welding.
• Experience in 4 position welding SMAW-CWB. Previous certification considered an asset.

Pay rate: Per Collective Agreement.

Steam Plant & Utilities Superintendent

Responsibilities:

The Steam Plant & Utilities Superintendent, working closely with mill wide operations and maintenance, coordinates the efficient operation and continuous improvement of PHP’s Utility Plant systems including all associated steam and water systems. Maintains operations and maintenance procedures, documentation on equipment, and reference manuals. Regularly liaises with contracted boiler operations company. Advises and communicates with all mill areas regarding scheduled and unscheduled utility outages and actively troubleshoots utility problems. Coordinates or assists in the coordination of utilities related maintenance shutdowns, project planning, designing, and procurement processes.

Requirements:

1st or 2nd Class Power Engineering certification coupled with more than 10 years of operations experience working in a utility environment. Candidate should have a strong aptitude for mechanical and process control along with relevant experience leading and working on interdisciplinary teams.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for/to:

  • Providing technical support to the maintenance department
  • Recognize and implement improvements to equipment that will improve efficiency, reliability, and maintainability
  • Identify the root cause of problems and develop and implement solutions
  • Mechanical engineering support on major maintenance and capital projects
  • Long-range mechanical maintenance planning and management
  • Interface with consulting engineers, vendors and contractors

Experience/Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible to be licensed by Engineers Nova Scotia
  • 3 to 5 Years of Mechanical Engineering Experience
  • Previous maintenance experience considered an asset
